As a community dedicated to protecting the Deschutes watershed and South Puget Sound, we must all keep an eye out for potential pollution incidents when we are out and about. This page contains a list of who to call to report a pollution source – click the organization name to be directed to their site. At the bottom of the page you will find an informative publication by DERT in conjunction with Puget SoundKeeper and titled “How to Spot & Report Pollution”. This pamphlet provides advice for identifying pollution sources on land and in water bodies.
Remember to gather as much information as you can and include photographs – but do not take samples! Your personal safety is of greater importance than pollution, so we advise you to take the necessary precautions to protect yourself. Do not touch anything that could be hazardous, traverse dangerous terrain, trespass on personal property, or engage in a hostile confrontation over pollution.
Important information includes:
- Date & Time,
- Local water body and location of pollutant,
- Physical characteristics and approximate quantity of pollutant,
- Weather & marine conditions,
- Resources at risk,
- and any other information you believe to be of significance.
